Hot Spot of the Week: Country Boy Brewing Georgetown Taproom

February 17, 2020 by Cathy Mattingly

My husband Ben and I headed out to Country Boy Brewing Georgetown Taproom last night to help Country Boy celebrate the brand’s 8th Anniversary. Sipping our drinks while we enjoyed the band , we were reminded why we love this place so much.

Live Music

Country Boy really is one of the best places in Georgetown to hear live music. It’s not as intimate a venue as somewhere like Slainte Public House, but big crowds can pack into Country Boy, and sometimes a big crowd is just what you want to be a part of. Also, this space easily accommodates larger, louder bands . We’ve seen lots of bands here and always enjoy it. Last night we saw Custom Made Bluegrass again. So fun! This is an accomplished group of musicians who clearly just love to play. It’s hard to stand still when the band is breaking down a classic bluegrass tune.

Beer Selection

Besides the flagship Country Boy brews like Cougar Bait, Shotgun Wedding, Cliff Jumper and Halfway Home, there’s always an every-changing, always intriguing selection of ciders, lagers, IPA, ales, porters, stouts. I like that many of their beers have local inspiration – like Nate’s Coffee Stout and Stamping Ground. If you like beer, you will definitely find something to love at Country Boy.

Ben had Jalpeno Smoked Porter, a beer he’d had before and enjoyed. “The jalapeno hits you first,” he said, “but the finish is smooth and rich.”

Not sure what kind of beer you want? Order a sampling flight!

I don’t like to mix my alcohol, and I didn’t start over the evening on beer, so I had a Cosmo slushie (seriously!). I love those things!

Service

Country Boy is busy, but the bar tenders do an amazing job of keeping everyone’s glasses full. I’ve never had a surly server there – always a smile and lots of patience which is good, because it can be hard to hear orders over the noise.

Food!

Country Boy really upped their game when they opened The Kitchen at Country Boy Brewing. Their smoked wings are the best in town (and often sell out). In addition to the regular menu, this weekend they offered the following specials:

Bbq Pork Belly Smoked Mac N Cheese
Good ol’ Sloppy Joe w/ side
Smoked Bologna Sandwich w/ side
The Big Hazard Sandwich w/ side
*While supplies last!*

And . . .

  • They’re now open on Sundays, starting at 11:00am – 10:00pm.
  • You’ll find plenty of TVs tuned to sports, and if the University of Kentucky is playing, the game is always on.
  • They’re got a great covered outdoor space and party rooms.
  • You can buy cans of some of the beers and Growlers of the tap beers.
  • You can buy t-shirts, had, mugs and other Country Boy merch.
  • It may be a taproom, but I don’t know that I’ve ever been there when there weren’t a least a few kids (maybe after 10pm or so).
  • It’s loud. The floor is concrete, the building is metal, the ceiling are high. It’s loud.
  • There’s always something cool going on. Test your intellect on Monday Trivia Night. STRETCH it out with Tuesday Yoga. Saturday, they had a Rolling Video Games truck parked outside where patrons could play “old school” video games. Giveaways. Drawings.

Come Home to Kentucky for the Lakes

Daniel Boone famously said, “Heaven must be a Kentucky kind of place.” Hundreds of years later, Kentucky is still stunningly beautiful, whether you’re in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, the rolling bluegrass of Central Kentucky or really anywhere in the state, you’ll find nature showing off. We’re particularly proud of our lakes here. I grew … Continue Reading » about Come Home to Kentucky for the Lakes
